Situated in the municipality of Bodoquena, a small town in the interior of Mato Grosso do Sul state, visiting the Boca da Onça waterfall and walking the trail through its complex is a dazzling exercise for the tourist and an incredible experience to keep in memory.
Among trails and waterfalls, with a very well preserved forest all around, there are more than 4,500 meters of walking in the middle of nature, in adventure tourism like no other.
The highlight of this attraction is a beautiful set of waterfalls, which are part of the Salobra river course formation.
The Boca da Onça Ecotour Trail with Waterfalls starts at about 3,500 meters, starting from the reception's headquarters and passing through the path that begins the 4,000-meter trail through the forest that makes up the Salobra River bed.
The visitor will have the privilege of walking and seeing 8 waterfalls, with 4 stops for bathing while walking along the trail. The main attraction to be known is the Boca da Onça Waterfall. Because of its 156 meters of height, Boca da Onça is the highest waterfall in the state.
Following the walk along the trail, the visitor will come across a support and safety staircase with 800 steps. The staircase can be accessed either uphill or downhill, depending on where the tour started.
After the first half of the trip, there is the option to stop and visit the support kiosk, which has bars and restrooms.
To return to the Boca da Onça Receptive, the visitor can choose to climb up the 800 steps (in the event that the trip does not start from this same spot) or by using one of the farm's support vehicles, which has the capacity to carry up to 10 people.
Due to the conservation of Bonito's many natural wonders, there are a limited number of places to access the city's tours.
Knowing this, do not waste time: it is essential to prepare the itinerary of your trip as soon as possible.
Two different versions help explain the origin of the name of this waterfall.
The first one comes from old stories told by the former owner of the place. According to him, there was an episode in which he got into trouble there, when he tried to save a deer from becoming dinner in the mouth of a jaguar.
At the same time, the other version that helps explain this name originates from a type of structure that exists at the site. It is a huge wall of massive rock that, when seen by tourists, is very reminiscent of the face of the animal.
By the way, the wall holds the title of the highest fall in Mato Grosso do Sul, due to its 156 meters of height.
To further sharpen the desire of those who intend to visit this Complex of Trails and Waterfalls, we have separated some curiosities related to the attraction, as well as tips to make your experience even more memorable.
Breakfast is offered at the farm first thing in the morning, from where you leave for the beginning of the hike.
The tour that goes through the complex of trails and waterfalls ends upon arrival at the reception. And it is exactly there that a delicious lunch can be found, prepared at the Boca da Onça farm.
Traditionally, lunch is prepared on a wood-burning stove. The menu is quite varied, from which they make the main typical foods of the region.
The restaurant at the reception also has alternative dishes for vegetarian and vegan visitors.
Lunch at the reception, as well as breakfast before the tour, are included in the ticket price.
As the tour through the complex of trails and waterfalls lasts the whole day, it is necessary to be ready to start walking as soon as possible in the morning. Thus, as soon as you arrive at the farm, you are welcomed with a delicious breakfast.
Starting from the top of the Salobra River canyon, more than 82 meters high, the trail begins, around magnificent and stunning scenery. This is also where the suspended platform is located, serving as a support base for the Boca da Onça rappelling activities.
It is also on this same platform that visitors can check out the unforgettable view from Serra da Bodoquena.
Following the trail, after a few minutes of walking, the main attraction of the hiking itinerary appears before the eyes of tourists: the famous Boca da Onça. Through its 156 meters, Boca da Onça is the highest waterfall located in Mato Grosso do Sul.
However, despite being the largest, this is not the only waterfall that visitors will get to know during their hike.
In addition, visits to Buraco do Macaco, Poço da Lontra, Cachoeira da Anta, Cachoeira do Jabuti, Cachoeira do Fantasma, and Garganta da Arara are included in the itinerary.
Finally, the tour of the complex of trails and waterfalls ends at the reception area. And it is in this same place that the visitor can enjoy lunch, rest, and take a nice bath.
Furthermore, in the reception area, the tourist has the opportunity to get to know all the infrastructure that the place can offer.
The tourist has the choice of having lunch at the reception or just reserving a period to stay there. There you will find bars, restaurants, gift stores, game rooms, and changing rooms.
The architecture of the place is a highlight apart. After all, there are several sculptures scattered around and made from wood.
Still at the reception, it is also possible to find some pools of running water with fish, which yield beautiful photos for social networks.

Not to mention the food, which is spectacular and brings us a bit of the local cuisine during our stay.
An incredible experience. It starts with a mouth-watering breakfast. Super organized. The guide was unparalleled. Quiet trail, wonderful waterfalls. Cold water and many steps... Haha The color of the water in this place is simply unbelievable. I was amazed with each new waterfall. On the way back a super lunch was waiting for us. An experience that I will cherish.
A trip not to be missed in this ecological paradise with visits to waterfalls and paradisiacal places in the middle of the forest. The 100-meter rappel is paid separately but it is worth it for being beautiful and the biggest in Brazil. Lunch is very tasty and is included in the rate. If you don't like to rush, don't park other tours on the same day because this one is very intense.
