Visiting Gruta do Mimoso is almost a must if you are in Bonito (Mato Grosso do Sul) and like to be in contact with nature, caves, geological formations, and a little adventure.
The cave is located on a farm 28 minutes from downtown and offers a contemplative tour of the region's flora, on a 300-meter trail, as well as a visit to the cave and its beautiful translucent blue waters.
Although it is a spectacular and breathtaking attraction, what is also quite impressive is that after more than 15 years closed for visitation, the Mimoso Cave reopened to receive tourists in early 2022 and has been a complete success ever since.
This is because it has been considered the most beautiful flooded cave and the top cave for diving by the International Cave Diving Community and top Brazilian divers.
Thus, not only conventional tourists are enchanted by its beauty, but experts all over the world - from South Korea to Ivory Coast - attest to how special the Mimoso Cave is.
By the way, the Mimoso Cave is proof that you can find fantastic places in Brazil. In other words, you don't need to go to faraway countries like Antigua and Barbuda, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, Costa Rica, or Cape Verde to have breathtaking vacations!
Due to the conservation of Bonito's many natural wonders, there are a limited number of places to access the city's tours.
Knowing this, do not waste time: it is essential to prepare the itinerary of your trip as soon as possible.
There are three types of visits to Gruta do Mimoso: contemplative, floating, and diving.
Adults, seniors, and children over the age of 6 accompanied by parents or guardians are allowed entry on the contemplative tour.
In this mode, the tour lasts just over an hour, and initially, everyone receives the necessary orientation from the guide and safety equipment, such as helmets.
A short trail of a little more than 300 meters begins, and right at the end, you can glimpse the cave.
To enter, you have to go down 78 steps until you reach the lower part near the water of the cave.
It is possible to contemplate the beauty of the waters and the geological formations such as speleothems, which are cone-shaped rocks.
For those who want a slightly more immersive tour, it is possible to do the flotation at Gruta do Mimoso in Bonito-MS.
In this modality, after hiking, the equipment such as snorkel, wetsuit, mask, helmet, life vest, shoes, and flashlight are delivered, with all the guide's orientations.
After this first orientation, the visitor is taken to enter the water of the cave and observe, with the help of the flashlight, the bottom of the water and all the submerged geological formations.
The tour lasts about 1h30min and can also be taken by children over 8 years old, as long as they are accompanied by parents or guardians.
The last way to visit the Mimoso Cave is by diving and getting to know, personally, the submerged parts of the cave.
The cave contains 3 rooms, the first of which is where flotation and diving are performed by inexperienced people, that is, without diving credentials. Therefore, to access rooms 2 and 3, it is necessary to have previous diving training.
Anyway, the baptism dive is the best option for those who have never dived and want to have this experience in one of the most beautiful caves in the world, located in Bonito-MS.
This modality can be carried out by people over 15 years old, and those under 18 must be accompanied by parents or guardians.
The dive, accompanied by a guide, takes an hour and a half and allows you to get closer to the beautiful geological formations submerged in the cave.
With so many different ways to visit the Mimoso Cave (Bonito-MS), you may wonder why it was closed from 2007 to 2022.
In 2007, the former owner of the farm passed away and the inheritance allowed the farm to be divided in two, and the part with the cave became the responsibility of his son, Elzito Alves de Arruda.
However, after his father passed away, Elzito had to go through all the processes and paperwork to get visitation certification at the site, which took several years.
In addition, during the time the cave has been closed to visitors, there have been break-ins at the site, the stones in the cave have been scratched and the stalactites were broken.
Therefore, these reasons prevented the beauty of the Mimoso Cave from being visited for so long.
However, now you can visit it and contemplate all the geological beauty of the Mimoso Cave, and even experience being in its waters.
It is worth booking in advance to have a better chance of enjoying all the attractions.
This lake is at least 87 meters deep and has some of the clearest water in Bonito.
One of the most beautiful places in Brazil, this underground lake has exactly what it needs to attract the adventurous.
Here you can visit 10 beautiful waterfalls and relax in 9 of them, where you can stop for a swim.
The Mimoso Cave is located in the Nova Querência Farm, on the MS-178 Highway, 29.4 km from the center of Bonito-MS.
